Kavita Nayar – Born 1957

Kavita received her BFA at Santiniketan (west Bengal),MFA from College of Art , New Delhi.  Awarded French Govt. scholarship to work in lithography & etchings at Cite International Des Arts & Ecole des Beaux Arts in1985-86. In 1990 she worked under a master printer in serigraphy in Luxembourg with creative Fund fellowship .In 1996 she went to Ruskin School of Art ,Oxford(England)as a senior fellow with the fellowship of  Charles Wallace India Trust.

Works have been shown at various major international shows including the International Triennale of prints in Grenchen, Switzerland; Print Biennale in Japan; Bharat Bhawan in Bhopal , India; International Prints Exhibition in Poland ;Print Biennale of Gyor in Hungary,1st Print Biennale of Lalit Kala Akademy,Delhi .

Recipient of the senior and junior fellowships from the ministry of culture in India.In 2001 awarded the Honourable Mention in the 44thNational exhibition by Lalit Kala Akademi.  Awarded Lalit Kala Research grant in1984-85. Invited to participate in the 10th Triennale of India in 2001.She has held many solo shows in India & abroad including the Otterbien University in Columbus, Ohio,USA,Bose Pacia Modern in New York,USA ,Oxford University in England and Mahatma Gandhi Inst. In Mauritius. Attended International Workshops in Sweden, Mois de L’estampe in Paris, Mauritius , Hungary, Beijing, Korea ,USA, Greece, Bhutan and Bangladesh. In 2008 Interacted with students by giving a presentation on print making at Otterbien University ,Westerville ,Columbus in USA and in 2016 presented a paper in Gunrapolis Museum in Athens.

On the academic level has been contributing to the Fine arts  and design instituitions  as a visiting faculty at the College of Art in New Delhi, South Delhi Polytechnique, National Inst.Of Fashion Technology in New Delhi , Mahatma Gandhi Institute in Mauritius and  visiting professor at the Dept.of Fine Arts in Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi. Part time faculty in Sri Auribindo Ist.of art and culture. She is invited by various institutions to conduct workshops for the students in Print -Making .Invited as jury member in various important art Institutions in India,including the Trade Fair Authority to judge Pavillions .

Kavita’s works are in the collections of museums in India ,France,Hungary ,Poland Germany, Sweden and United States. Also in major corporate houses , museums in India and  abroad, including  Panchvati Hall in  Prime minister’s House in New Delhi. She was the vice president of Indian Print maker’s Guild. She has curated many exhibitions in Print making under the banner of  group“Multiple Encounters”

She lives and works in New Delhi. She is a Trustee of  Kala Sakshi Memorial Trust which gives scholarships and  mentoring programmes to  young talented students from  fine arts colleges of India.
